Ron Baker Biography

Ron Baker, Lead Singer of Zola Taylor's Platters

Live at Trump's Taj Mahal in Atlantic City

Ron Baker, born April 12th under the sign of Aries, hails from Cleveland, Ohio.   He is a very pioneering type with an eye for style and originality.  His base was firmly set on the streets and in talent contests around Cleveland.  By 1969 he took his five man group (The Classics) on the road - destination Los Angeles.  There, they met the world famous Zola Taylor, of the original Platters.  She immediately chose them to debut with her in her original          Zola Taylor Platters group.

After touring around the world with the Platters for 7 years, Ron set his sights on a recording deal.  He went on to record with artists Wilton Felder and Joe Sample of The Jazz Crusaders.  Ron was co-writer on Wilton Felder's first solo album, We All Have a Star, and in 1978 received the Billboard Jazz Pick of the Month.  Ron has also recorded with Elton John, Barry White, George Benson, Phyllis Hyman, James Ingram, David Sancious, Ronnie Laws and Ronnie Foster, just to name a few.

Still in close touch with The Platters, Ron again embarked on another stint with the group.  He continues to work with Zola Taylor, most recently playing at Trump's Taj Mahal for a PBS special.
